life lately according to instagram

It has been so wonderful to be home over the holidays. My family really is the best comedy show around and tickets are free and snacks are complimentary. I have been having a lot of fun hiking and learning to drive in the snow. Living in the hills and having snow is kinda a new thing for us Brits, but, I think we are doing well so far. Tomorrow is New Year's Eve - I can hardly believe it! What a year 2012 has been.....I am sure I shall have a post reviewing the great adventures of this year soon, so pop back again in 2013.
Happy Sunday y'all! I hope you have some wonderful plans for New Years and I pray that 2013 would be a year of adventure and joy for you all.

TGIF

Not that it being Friday makes much difference when you are on Christmas Break from University, but still, happy friday and TGIF. The Sargeant household is winding down after Christmas and beginning to do more than read books, wear our pj's for far too long each day and eat left over turkey (I finished it last night). Today I have one long extended coffee date with my sweet parents around a couple of stores and then we are going to catch a movie. Oh to be on vacation. Happy Friday y'all.

twas the night before Christmas

It is Christmas Eve and what a wonderful feeling it is to be home and with my family. We are greatly missing my bro and his fiance who are in England....but we are trying to not let that get us too down.
There is a dusting of snow on the hills, the fire is crackling, the feast is ready for tomorrow and hey, Jesus, it's your birthday.
Tomorrow shall be filled with joy, love, impromptu dance parties (for me), turkey for lunch and elk for dinner with friends, snow fights, snuggles by the fire with the pup, patting ponies and walks through the snow. I hope that you are all set for a good Christmas with the ones you love.
Merry Christmas from the Sargeant Family - may you have a day filled with happiness and love, followed by a year of adventure and blessing!

the pressing question

It seems that for the most part the pressing question a student hears during their University years is, "so what do you want to do when you graduate?". So much of the college journey seems to be consumed with the fear and uncertainty of what will happen when it is finished. I can see how having a plan can be a good thing - it can aid motivation and provide comfort. But you know what? I don't have a plan. I have passions that I don't quite know how to translate into a career plan, and I am not yet sure what I want to "work" at for many years to come.
Recently the pressing question has been posed to me a lot more than usual by family members and professors. I am a junior and it seems that this is suppose to be the time that I form an answer to this question - do I go to graduate school? Do I aim for a masters? A PHD? What do I want to study further? Where do I want to study? What do I plan on doing when my student visa runs out?
Its scary. I know that the fear can cripple me from enjoying the moment I am in and I try my hardest to not worry....but that's tough.
A while ago I saw this video on Taylor Sterling's blog. It made me smile. I love hearing stories from people who take leaps of faith to pursue a calling on their life, a passion in their heart. This couple are as cute as a button and they inspire me to dig deep, cultivate a passion - for whatever delight has been placed in my heart, big or seemingly small - and take a leap of faith.

Wishful Wednesday

It's Wednesday and that time of the semester when things get a little more busy than they normally are. So busy in fact that I haven't been on pinterest for at least a two weeks. Whoa. Yep, life is too busy to even get my creative fix on pinterest. Instead, I am buried in books whilst looking at the mountains and wishing I could just go get lost in them - backpack somewhere, set up camp and be still for a little time. Hiking in between paper writing and textbook reading isn't quite enough for me these days. My feet are itching to take me on an adventure.....

Fall Break Catchup

I have been a tad completely AWOL for the past week, not only on this blog here but in the lives of many friends. Good friends at that. I completely spaced the birthday of one of my dearest friends and I also handed in a University assignment late. The latter might not seem like a big deal, but it kinda is to me. I like to be respectful of my professors and honor them so I felt bad about that. Fortunately my professor was extremely graceful and forgiving about it. That was terribly sweet of him.
Well, I had Fall Break the week before last and it was wonderful - it was a much needed break from school work (mostly) and I got to catch up on a whole load of sleep. Thanksgiving in my house was great - my mum is the Queen of feasts. We had a peaceful day sitting around the fire in out knits, eating and laughing.
I decided that Black Friday was NOT for me. I didn't venture out at ungodly hours, but instead enjoyed a coffee date with friends and an early night in.
Fall Break - you were great. Thanks for the hikes, the early nights and late mornings spent in bed. Moscow thanks for hosting us on our road trip, thank you for your great coffee shops, antique and thrift stores. It was most fun pretending to be a hipster with you for a few days.
